Why a Houston Power Couple Chose Colt Melrose, America’s Best Headshot Photographer

When you’re in the worst moment of your life — life-flighted from an accident scene, facing surgery, staring at a hospital ceiling — the attorney you call becomes everything. They carry your fear. They fight your battles. They make you feel like someone is genuinely in your corner.

Rachel and Cody Linn built The Linn Law Firm, PLLC, with that weight in mind. Every client they serve is someone hurting or at their lowest. And from day one, they knew that their brand — the way they appeared online, the first impression a frightened person would get before picking up the phone — had to be worthy of the trust they were asking for.

What they didn’t have in the beginning was photography that matched who they actually were.

Before Colt:

A Law Firm With Heart, But No Brand

Rachel and Cody founded The Linn Law Firm in Houston in 2019. Two attorneys, married partners, with a shared mission: make it right for every client, every time. They had the credentials — both graduates of The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University School of Law, both licensed in Texas for over a decade, both battle-tested.

But their brand? That was still a work in progress.

“We had done a very quick photo shoot with a family friend whom we’d known through school when we very first started the law firm,” Rachel recalls. “But we wouldn’t say that we were branded before that.”

Their first website was functional. It told people who they were. But it didn’t tell people who they could be with Rachel and Cody in their corner. For a firm built entirely on referrals — where every new client comes from a former client who trusted them completely — that gap between perception and reality mattered.

The Connection

That Started Everything

Cody Linn is the kind of person who takes his professional relationships seriously. As president of his Business Network International – Katy chapter, he showed up every Thursday, built real connections, and paid attention to the people doing excellent work around him.

One of those people was Colt Melrose.

“Cody always came back from the meetings and spoke so highly of Colt and his work,” Rachel says. “Having seen all of his presentations and met him personally every Thursday, he was impossible to ignore.”

When it came time to invest in real, professional photography for the firm, the decision wasn’t difficult. Cody had already watched Colt’s work speak for itself, week after week. Rachel and Cody booked their first shoot together, and that session changed the trajectory of their brand.

“Colt was definitely our first chef’s kiss. That real, branded, professional look — that was him, for sure, doing that for us.”

The Shoot That Launched a Real Brand

Their first session with Colt was over four years ago. What came out of it wasn’t just a set of photographs — it was the visual foundation their entire business presence was built on.

“That was fun,” Rachel says, almost laughing at how significant the shift was. “To be able to translate that into an online presence that was definitely much more professional and clean-cut.”

The photographs unlocked their first real website. Not the placeholder Rachel had built herself in the early days — a professional, polished online presence that reflected the caliber of legal work they were doing. The imagery gave them permission to go bigger.

“Without those first round of headshots, we wouldn’t have probably been as excited to build a website — or maybe even too timid to really grow it into
what it is now.”

The Picture That People Keep Talking About

Ask Rachel about the feedback from their sessions and she lights up. But there’s one image in particular — the one in the center of their homepage, where Rachel is on the couch and Cody is leaning in beside her — that keeps coming up.

“That picture has gotten so much fantastic feedback,” she says. “Whether it be holiday cards or just clients going to the website saying, ‘I looked at those pictures and wanted to call you.’”

That one photograph — warm, confident, human — is doing real business development work. People who are scared, who’ve just been through something awful, look at that image and feel like these are people they can trust. People who will fight for them.

“Colt did the jokes during photo shoots,” Rachel adds with a laugh. “I think that caught us in a laugh. That’s what people respond to.”

“I looked at those pictures

and wanted to call you.”

What the Photos Did for the Business

The Linn Law Firm is 100% referral based. No paid advertising. No cold outreach. Just excellent legal work and a reputation that spreads through the communities of West Houston, Katy, and Cypress — up and down Highway 99 — one grateful client at a time.

They have 47 Google reviews. Every single one is five stars.

One of those reviews, left by Mark and Deborah Shuffield, says everything:

“My life was shattered in an instant when I was involved in a horrific 18-wheeler accident. I was life-flighted from the scene, underwent surgery on my leg, and suffered a broken jaw in three places… What began as the darkest chapter of my life ended with closure, justice, and peace because of their hard work. I will forever be grateful to Cody and Rachel at The Linn Law Firm for standing by me when I was at my lowest.”

That’s what happens when your brand finally matches your work. People see you, they trust you, they call you. And then you change their lives.

Two Teams. One Vision.

Rachel noticed something unexpected — working with Colt and Lindy Melrose felt like looking in a mirror.

“We know how husband and wife teams work — because we are one,” she says. “I always love to work with another husband and wife team, and they’re one of the best ones out there.”

She made a point of calling out Lindy Melrose by name, who handles hair, makeup, and the energy that makes every shoot feel comfortable rather than clinical. “She does a fabulous job keeping the vibe very comfortable and fun.”

Both couples are in the business of making people feel at ease during difficult moments — Colt and Lindy before the camera and the advice on building a personal brand presence, and Rachel and Cody in the courtroom. The parallel isn’t lost on any of them.

They Came Back

In the fall of 2025, Rachel and Cody returned to Colt’s studio for their second round of personal brand headshots. They didn’t have to — the original images were still working. But they’d grown. Their law firm had grown. And they wanted their brand to keep pace.

“We initially asked Colt, ‘When should we be doing this?’ and followed his advice,” Rachel says. “So we came back.”

That’s the mark of a strategic investment: not just that it works the first time, but that it becomes part of how a business thinks about itself. Rachel and Cody don’t treat photography as a one-time expense. They treat it the way they treat every tool in their legal practice — as something worth maintaining at the highest level.

Rachel and Cody Linn don’t need an introduction.

They want professional headshots more powerful than any introduction could be.
